58 cal buffalo ball-ets
« on: January 17, 2011, 02:59:21 PM »
Hey guys I want to try conicals im my 58 huntsman. I seem to remember Kurt talking about buffalo ball-ets but cant find them anywhere. Anyone know where to find them. If not what woud be a good substitute for it. Im assuming I need a shorter bullet for the slow twist in this barrel.

     Thanks Chris

Buffalo Bullets is alive and well. The owner called me awhile back to let me know and spoke favorably about becoming a sponsor on GBO. He said they were in the process right now of catching up on back orders from dealers/suppliers but soon would be shipping and selling again.

So all is not lost they are again alive and well and the bullets will become available again soon.

That's great news, both about becoming a sponsor and making bullets again, thanks Bill!  ;)

if you pour your own lee has a 58 cal r.e.a.l. mould that should work in a roundball twist. it's what i plan on using in mine. for what it's worth, bubba.

That is one of the things that makes them shoot so well out of my 58's the fact that they are basically a short round ball thats flat and  hollowed on the bottom. Kurt

I've forwarded this thread to the owner. I don't know if he will decide to comment or not since I've not heard from him in more than a month now and am not sure what their current status is other than alive and well. I'm really not free to share more info than that at this time.

regarding the Lee 58 cal REAL mould, there is a locally owned gunshop (NW Ohio) that offers these bullets from a private bullet caster.  Another GBO member bought them and tried a few in his 58 MZ and the had good accuracy.

I'd love to get some more buffalo ball-etts in 50 cal. I've been out for a while now and both of my muzzleloaders like them.

So what kind of bore/groove and twist dimensions do these H&R/NEF .58 barrels have?

crank the .58 has a 1-66 twist I have the bore and groove written down somewhere and have a slug but have been rearranging things maybe a while before it turns up. The manual shows round ball @ .562 w/.013 patch .
I sure hope these guys (Buffalo) come around again .I would like to find some of the .32 Ball-ets they used to make .I have an old cataloge that shows they made one for the .32 70gr may just be the ticket for my .32 Huntsman. Kurt

I was finally able to locate some of the .32 for my custom Huntsman from these guys you might want to see if they have any of the .58's.they shipped fast with no issues. Thanks for the contact info GB. One of you guys that are looking give them a call and let us know whats up. I would do it but I am not looking anymore since I found my .32's and I have plenty of supply of the others. Just don't think it's right if I have no intent to buy any. One thing to note on what I have in my stock is that the lube drys out after a while. Not that big of a deal if you don't mind cleaning and relubing a batch before shooting. Kurt

Maybe one of those food vacuum pack things would 'keep 'em fresh'?

Maybe I will do that with the 32's and the 58 405's but the others are way past fresh. Kurt

With 'old, seemingly dried out 'lube bullets I have had good luck and no leading, etc. by finger rubbing some TC Bore Butter on them before loading. Another chap swears by Udder Creme.

I bet either one of those 58s Ball-ets would make a good 20 ga sabot in the right shot cup.  If anybody finds where to buy these please post, I tried the one website listed in this thread and didn't see anything from Buffalo bullets.
