Re-Barrel Question
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:50:03 AM »
I just bought a H&R Trapper in .357 mag.  Is this action suitable for other barrels in high pressure rounds such as 243, 308, and so on?

Welcome! Negative on that, it's an SB1-35T, SB1 frames are for low pressure rounds only, see the right side of the frame for the statement on what barrels H&R will fit to it.

Many here have done so. It will handle a .357 Max load.

Perfect excuse  as to why you need to buy another Handi!   ;)
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Do all the .357s come on sb1 frames?
I saw a .357 and a .44 in the gun store the other day and Im pretty sure the stickers on both said sb2

All factory 357 and 44 mag rifles made 2008 and later are on SB1 frames, those made prior to that were on SB2 frames, barrels are marked SB2 which doesn't mean anything as to the frame they come on, it's just misleading, there are a bazillion posts here on the subject. Read the statement on the right side of those SB1 rifles, it makes it easy to tell if it's an SB1 or not. Doesn't really apply to accessory barrel fitted frames since H&R has been fitting those barrels to SB1 frames since late 2008 which won't be marked.
