da vs dao snubbi
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:43:09 PM »
Im wondering if the trigger pulls on taurus cia revolvers is considerably different than there regular da revolvers considering the cia is a dao? I purchased a new 22 from taurus, and wife could not fire it da, too hard to pull. makes a gun real inaccurate too. Thought maybe since it was made to fire dao the cia might have different trigger pull.????? :-\

I have experience with both, and although the "concealed" hammer (bodyguard) is very nice on single action the double is a bit stiff.  not an issue hunting or at the range, but maybe an issue for ccw (I like the option to use sa but not likely to come up) so I checked some dao and they are not "lighter" BUT the cia/dao are a bit smoother and do not "stack" right before the trigger trips the hammer.  a brand-new sample was easy to press through the cycle without my hand jiggling the sights off alignment, something I cannot do with most da revolvers.  it's got to get smoother over time too, especially if recently oiled (you do oil your revolvers, don't you).

if I had money I'd go get a cia in .357 for a second snub, faster locktime, smoother da pull, doesn't get lint inside it gumming it up every couple weeks.  put a houge grip on it, you're set.

Howdy,
I just spent a whole summer carrying a Taurus .327 in a DiSantis Nemesis pocket wallet. I had considered getting a bobbed-hammer DAO revolver, but as long as the frame has an opening, I figured I'd like a hammer once in a while. The spur is small enough that it doesn't catch on anything, but I was prepared to take a Dremel to the edges if they needed rounding.
I fired the first couple cylinders single-action to determine accuracy and to see where the bullets would hit from 15 yards. After that I shot it DA, and while it was stiff ( as is the DA pull on my Smiths and Colts), it didn't stack. It was a very cosistent pull that I was able to get used to. I shot up most of a box of 98gr .32 S&W's DA, and switched to the 100gr .327's. POI was dead on for the .32's (which felt like .22LR's) and about two inches high with the Magnums. The rubber grips either controlled the recoil, or the .327 doesn't really kick that hard for a supersonic screamin' cartridge. I'd recommend this six-shooter over a five-shot .38. If you can find one, that is.

I've got the CIA model and I think it is the best concelled gun made.
Trigger pull is smooth enough for what it's for.
And the rubber grips makes recoil easy to control with full house 357 loads.
I like it because if need be ,,,you can fire from inside a coat pocket.
((warning))  IF you ever fire it from inside coat pocket -KEEP THE GUN PUSHED FORWARD AWAY FROM YOUR BODY!!!!
I ran a few tests with a towel wrapped twice around gun when firing.
The cylinder and barrel gap blew hot gases with enough force to SLICE  a 2" burnt gash through both layers of towel!

+1

I have a M605 snubbie with a hammer.  Agreed 100% with the previous post and wish I had gotten the CIA.  They are the meanest CCW pistols out there.

There are a lot of nice DAO snubies out there.  I'd almost plan on either having a trigger job done, or doing a bubba trigger job myself though.  Many of them you can just buy snap caps and keep clicking till the trigger smooths out.  But I think I'd reverse shop.  Google (look around) for what is out there that is very easy to do a good trigger job on, then pick the weapon.  My holster always covers the trigger so I'm not that concerned with needing a 8 pound pull.  Gritty pull isn't that bad if it's only 4-5 pounds and snap caps usually cure gritty pull.
