Anyone know what H&R uses on the new matte receivers?

So that's what's on my Talo? Any reports on durability?

Appears to be the same coating they've been using for years on some of their other firearms including the Sportsters.

Doesn't seem to rust.  They should've done the barrel while they were doing....

My SB2 Talo Trapper 45-70 has a conventional H&R blue finish, but my SB1 44mag Youth frame made last year has the same black oxide finish as my Sportsters, same as the Survivors I think, they're listed as matte also, so it's not new that I'm aware of. H&R will refinish SB1 frames in standard blue or the matte black oxide, same for SB2 plus the Buffalo Classic case coloring.

I've just picked up three in the last couple of months, new to me.

I'm a gonna' just duracoat the barrel on my .17 hmr, and make it low maintenance!  Used it in the rain the other day, and had the faintest rust forming on the barrel, none on the receiver.

Tim,
I've always been a blue and wood man, but these new guns with the synthetics are just beggin' to be painted.  Low maintenance is the key word.  My 22 mag is gonna' get a camo job, the .17 will be black all over.  Coyotes should'nt care.  I'm hunting public land where the .223 is a no no.  Shotgun or rimfire only, so these two should take care of business.

Shot 4 armadillos yesterday at over 100 yds. hilltop to side hill, all head shots.  When the .17 hits them they don't even leap!
