Favorite outdoor memory jogger (that is true)
« on: December 23, 2011, 04:12:55 AM »
My favorite is because I need some help remembering the difference between coral snakes and king snakes: Red and yellow kill a fellow, Red and black is safe for Jack. (The snakes have stripes. Coral snakes are venomous and the red stripes touch the yellow stripes.)

Also, "stay off the ice until after Christmas" is useful where I live because the ice on lakes may or may not be reliable until then. After that, there's usually been enough cold weather to make the ice safe to walk on (but you really need to use your head).  This only has local validity, though.

Then there's the ever popular "Get off the water when you see lightning". Always good advice.

Got a favorite that's useful and true?

The old biblical; red clouds in morning sailors take warning, red clouds at night sailors delight.
You reap what you sow.

Read this in FIELD&STREAM when I was a kid and it works.

How many times have you had to go back and get your knife after gutting a deer and dragging it out?

My Grand Pa always said "Don't worry about the mule going blind, just load the wagon." That one is for all the whiners out there.lol
Anther one he had, "When you got one boy ,you got one. When you got two boys, you don't have any". This would involve work.
