7mm.08 Encore pistol............
« on: December 04, 2011, 02:42:46 PM »
Im putting a 7mm.08  together and I was just curious if anyone else has one, what do you think about the rd and could you post some pics of your set up. I took mine to the range just to get a feel for the rd and it rocked my grip loose but for the rd itself I think I might have a keeper.I just wanna get a visual on how you guys have put yours together so I know what Ill have to do for mine.

I assume you have the 15'' barrel. The 7-08 is a good choice. Bullet weights run from about 100 to 175gr. The trajectory is good to probably as far as you have any business shooting it.  It will lend itself to best use being rested and with good glass on it. If you need you can neck down .308W cases for it. I think you will be happy.

This is my Encore with the 7mm/08 barrel on it.  It started out as a 15 inch tapered stainless steel barrel with iron sights.  I had the front sight cut off and an integral muzzle brake installed.  Following that, I had SSK Industries put on a black mil spec coating.

The 308 Winchester barrel on the above gun also started out as a 15 inch tapered stainless steel barrel with iron sights.  I had T/C cut the barrel behind the sight and add a Muzzle Tamer.

You don't really need a muzzle brake with either a 7mm/08 or 308 but but it doesn't cost that much more to have one installed than it does to just have the barrel cut down and recrowned so I had them installed.

I thought about a break I have made up my mind yet.  I had one put on my 30.30 and 243 which it tamed both. I also had a 243 without the break and it seemed like it was more accurate than the break. It couldve just been me to, not taking my time and rushing my shots. I picked the 7.08 up looking for " THAT" deer round with alot of rearend.

Welp I sent my 7.08 barrel off to have a break installed. Hopefully it will be back around the first of the year. Ive got a gunshow coming to town the 2nd week of January , Ill be looking for another set of Burris Z Rings and a Burris 2-7 scope . Then a few months of practicing with it .
