The Woes of 1911 45ACP Pricing
« on: January 05, 2004, 09:38:57 AM »
Just wanted you 45 ACP readers to see this as I already posted it on the Dan Wesson portion of the Forum.
I had my local gun club officer who holds our FFL call Dan Wesson before Christmas for a price on the new Patriot Expert 1911 45ACP. The price that was given to my FFL holder was about $630.00. I found the same gun in a local shop and they had a ticket on it for $895.00. Anyway my club officer called Melissa back at Dan Wesson today (1-5-04) and she told him there was a price increase. He reminded her that she told him a set price during his orginal call to her and that he called her 3 or 4 times to place the order and she never returned his call. (They could have been closed over the holiday season). Anyway she assured him that the price she originally quoted would hold. About a half-hour later she called him back and said that the price was not good and that the price would be somewhere around $875.00.  Anyway I told him not to order it as I won't do business with people who quote one price, tell you that they had a price increase but they will honor the first price then change the price again. Won't even consider buying another Dan Wesson. Ordered a Springfield today and got the same features for about what the original Dan Wesson price was supposed to be. Be aware that if you call and don't get anyone at DW that they don't appear to check their voice mail on a daily basis as my guy left them several messages. Sounds like they still need to get their customer service together. If there is this much hassel with trying to BUY I don't want to think what getting a warranty repair would be like. JMHO for whatever it's worth!!!!

Negative Experiences

Hay there Original Ken:  bad experiences like this are a better learning vehicle for most people than 'sage' advice.  I know you had seriously talked up the Dan Wesson previously and were really interested in one but dang pal, if they are gonna jack the price up or not stick to an original quote, then your green might go a lot further somewhere else.

The same thing happened to me years ago when Winchester brought back the 45-70, the one that was made in Japan.  At first the price was $500 plus, with only a 90 day wait, but when the price rose to $800 and a 6 month wait I went elsewhere.

My brother decided to trade his 9mm Glock for a 1911 - he likes the Springfield I have, although I have not yet turned him on to my older lightweight Commander, which he will drool for.  He carries much but shoot little, so the Commander may be his ticket.  Now, all he had to do is price one out.  I'll let him do that.  Mikey.

I could'nt pay 400-600-800, at a Texas High Caliber (Houston)show,I fell to temptation.I purchased a  Llama Max-I .45 ACP. I had enough left over to buy 300 rounds and a cleaning brush set. I replaced the barrel
bushing with a after market, the fit is perfect.  I'm thrilled. My cost was
$273.87 for the ACP. Also found a Fobus paddle holster $18.00. :agree:
