.375 JDJ rifle made meat!
« on: December 30, 2011, 05:13:06 AM »
I took a 5pt whitetail Wednesday afternoon, late in the day with my Contender rifle in .375 JDJ.  He stumbled about 30 yds before expiring...for those you like pass through shots..the 235 grain Barnes TSX from a .375 JDJ at 40 yards is your ticket!  exit hole about the size of a half dollar.

Congrates on scoring a nice buck but we need pics or it didn't happen...    ;D

I also shoot a Contender carbine in 375JDJ I passed on the .270 BC 235gr TSX because they do not expand on soft tissue below 1900fps limited the max hunting range.

I went with the .473 BC 260gr Accubonds @ 2280 - 2300fps these bullets expand down to below 1800fps so I am good to 300 yards and they are crazy accurate.

I've recently started looking at the new this year .424 BC 250gr TTSX Ty Herring of Barnes tells me that these bullets will expand on soft tissue down to 1850fps.

Way to go!!!!!  Evidently you got the "Rocking Chair" to hold still ;D   You have aroused my interest in that 375. Who knows what will show up at the gun show today. There just might be..............Who knows?
See you Sunday.

Don't worry about posting pics I was just having fun I totally believe you...

3 weeks ago we shot a medium size 2X2 coastal blacktail with my 375JDJ/260gr Accubonds shot was appr 80 yards.

Deer was running/quartering away from right to left bullet entered the rear of the left side rib cage and exited out the right front shoulder destroyed the lungs and the liver and only caused minor bruising in the shoulder.

2 1/2 years ago I shot a 6' black bear at 90 yards with the same combo dropped it instantly it did start to get up so I put another 260gr Accubond into it.

I have loaded and shot 225gr Hornady spire points, 235gr Speer, made in Africa 235gr Claw bonded, 250gr Partitions, 270gr Spitzer/round nose and personally feel that the best all round bullet for the 375JDJ is the 260gr Accubond.

I would shoot out to 300 yards on moose/elk/bear/deer and I even took this rifle/load grizzly hunting...

If I could only have one Contender carbine chambering/load it would be the 375JDJ/260gr Accubonds...

Nice score old friend.

But using a rifle length TC from a rocking chair is cheating pard.   ::)

All four of my SSK 375JDJ's were 14", I've never shot a longer one.   Must be a 1500 yard barrel, right?    :)    I mostly only shot 270-285 grainers in mine, so no help on loads for the pipsqueak pills for pipsqueak deer, sorry.   ;)

the reference to the rocking chair is because I missed a nice buck a couple of weeks earlier with my 6.5 Rem Mag from the same stand.  I hunt a friends property and he has consructed a new box blind this year..16 ft. up...he has furnished his new stand with two chairs that look like they came off someones patio!  They have really nice cushions..but they are rockers!!! Just as I was squeezing the trigger, I rocked backwards about 3 inches..of course I shot over the deer!  I attend church with Jim36 and had told him that I needed to practice shooting from a rocking chair!

Us folks that only spot and stalk game don't miss, so I'll have to take your word about shooting from a blind from chairs.    ;D

this stand hunting is new to me also..was always a ground hunter..till my friend bought this land.  The place is crawling with deer.  He and his wife hunted a week ago and saw 21 deer..none of the bucks suited her..she wanted a "real big one"!
