Winchester Supreme Elite Ammo
« on: December 05, 2011, 04:46:50 AM »
Have any of you shot much of the Winchester Supreme Elite ammo line out of your big bores?

Im interested in both bullet performance and general accuracy (understading that all rifles like different bullets, etc..)..

The 375 grain dual bonded 45-70 stuff was on sale at my local Academy Sports this week.. so I picked up a couple of boxes..

Supposedly it pushes a 375gr bullet right at 1500 FPS.. should be more than enough for deer/hogs, etc.. out to 100 yards... and I figured at $33 a box it was worth giving it a shot (rem corelokt 405gr was selling for $38 a box)..

the way the bullet is designed it looks more like something you would find on top of a personal defense pistol round though than a traditional hunting round.. so I am a little concerned about penetration with a large, medium skinned animal (250+ pound boar, or an elk for example)..

Very accurate in my Marlin 1895 STBL and my TC Encore Katadin 45/70. I have not used them for hunting yet, but have little doubt that they will work fine for whitetail here in Virginia.

Give them a try and let us know your results.
