Welcome a new Co-Moderator in Gardening and Home Winemaking

I have asked longwinters to be a co-moderator in this forum, and he has accepted.
 
longwinters has been with me in this forum since the beginning in 2005 and with GBO since 2002, which is  the beginning of the website.
 
 
He is from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I am sure he can help with gardening in short growing seasons.  He just needs to learn how to make wine.
 
Kindly show him the same respect as any other moderator on the website.  He is a good guy.

A fine choice JVS, Longwinters is a good man for the job with a deep understanding of seasonal challenges for the gardener.  Combined with your knowledge of wine making a well balanced knowledge base has been put together.

You give me way too much credit for the winemaking part.  I have just taken it down to its simplest form after 42 years of experience at making wine.
 
I am in no way an expert at it, but I do know what works and what doesn't for the type of wine that I like to make.  I am lucky enough to have 2 hobbies - puttering around in the garden and winemaking.
 
This may surprise you but I dont drink wine, I only make it and give it away.  Something I rarely have a problem doing.  It makes a great Christmas Gift, but I do get requests year round.

You're my hero!      Heck, it's been about that long since I made any!      Brace yourself, I'll have questions!

Shoot, most of the time mine didn't make it to the bottle!  And if it did, it didn't age much!

Well,
 
I use white wine to cook with and started to grow a few grapes, but thats the closest I get to "making wine".  I guess I've never had any good stuff...when I've tried it my face gets hot and a bit red and when I take a swallow it smells like old tennis shoes in my sinuses.  Maybe I should have started earlier in life...

Ok long, go buy a bottle of Sutter Home "Moscotto"  chill it it in the fridge until cold, and try that.


Also try a Merlot for your next wine reduction, use that with sauteed onions and mushroom caps over a sirloin steak then just a light sprinkling of blue cheese crumbles.


Now that's good eatin' there I don't care who ya are!!
