I have one in 32-20. I never hunted squirrels with it, but it has taken it's fair share of foxes and other small game. They point real nice and shoulder very quickly. It use to be my favorite rifle when hunting on snow shoes.

I guess no squirrels were taken with the Model 53 ? I would have liked to have heard about the hunt.. I imagine that hundreds if not thousands of squirrels and rabbits have been taken with the .44-40 over the years but that dont happen much anymore...I have decided to take one squirrel with each 'new' gun I acquire....Working on a Winchester mod 65 chambered in .218 BEE right now.. Will line up the shot to leave the bullet in the tree after passing through the squirrel same as I have always done with .22 LR . Much rather pass up a shot than to let one fly to who knows where.
