NEW RIFLE FROM HENRY IN 2012

I have sent suggestions to Mr. Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms regarding other offerings in centerfire big bore, with emphasis on BIG. September 30, 2011 he responded to my latest email with the news that Henry will introduce a 45-70 with 20" barrel early in 2012, more models to follow. I begged for more info on the new rifle but he kindly preferred to keep that info to himself just now. I thanked him and told him that there are many consumers who are not offended by a rifle with heft that throws a big chunk of lead.  I also offered that his steel frame 30-30 is an excellent platform and a very easy conversion to 375 Win caliber. He said that he would consider it!  A Chief that listens to the indians!!

That would make just one fine gun !!! Then please the cowboy boys with a brass recievered 38/55 while the machinery is still set up
 
But what if they would step in and offered us all a 308 and or 338 ME based on the black steel framed 6LB rifle . There should be a rumblin' noise from all the folks coming their way to buy one .I would be willing to pre order .

The 45-70 would be my choice over the others, as long as it was strong enough for "modern lever action" loads

If they could move on the 308 and 338 LE cartridges before Remington gets their issues worked out, they could steal a large part of the market on these chamberings.  I own both from Marlin before Remington moved the factory, and my 338 MXLR is fast becoming my favorite.  The round has been used on game up to and including moose and buffalo.  Mine continues to amaze me with it's accuracy.  These cartridges are too good to let die, Henry should look into this.  The 375/38-55 chambering is also one that should be given a boost.  DP

Do you mean .307?? Browning has the only .308 Win levergun I am aware of.  Being clip fed and using a rotary bolt lock up mechanism similar to a bolt action rifle it is the only levergun I know of that is strong enough to hold the pressures

Marlin brought out a new cartridge a few years ago to give the shooters of traditional levers a long range option.  The 308 ME, then they later brought out the 338 ME cartridge.  They partnered with Hornady to develope the 308 and then 338 Marlin Express cartridges.  Take a trip to the Hornady web site and check them out as to their performance.  The Marlin rifles use a different thread to attach the barrel to the frame as well as other accuracy mods to use the long range capabilities of the two cartridges.  I own both and both are outstanding cartridges, but I do prefer the 338 in my Marlin MXLR. My 338 MXLR has consistantly given me sub-moa groups with Hornady factory LE ammo.  The 338 has taken game upto and including Moose and Buffalo.  DP

You are correct on this.  Since the turn of the century the most common big game caliber has been the 30-30.  People used it to harvest game all across North America.  Then the gun manufactures decided they needed to sell more guns.  So they started saying the 30-30 couldn't do it anymore.  You needed Brand X super magnum.

I'm a little surprised no company makes a factory 30-30 AI. Or that no ammo company sells the cartridges Pre-loaded. If they wanted to sell more guns, that would do it quick.

The 338 looks like a great cartridge. Ballistics charts show it running neck and neck with the good 'ol 30-06.

IMHO, they should get the .45-70 fielded and the kinks worked out; then, offer a .348 Winchester version.
