Perry vetos anti texting law

What a bunch of crap. Perry says that making texting while driving illegal is government over reach. If that is the case why does he not push for removal of DUI laws, speeding, etc. Makes as much sense.

Do you want government telling you when to go to bed and what to wear? It is none of their business. Perry did the right thing. Besides, statistics have shown that anti texting laws have cause more accidents in the cities where they have been enacted. The reason is that people keep the device lower so that law enforcement won't see it. It is just another case of where government meddling has negative consequences, as is usually the case.

You have to be kidding! Studies have shown texting to be eight times more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk. As in my first post, I then must assume that you do not support any DWI laws or any other traffic laws for that matter?

DWI too! Studies have shown that while officers are doing traffic stops for drunk drivers more accidents are occurring because they are not patrolling the roads. It takes several to do traffic stops leaving a void on the highways.

Perry did the right thing here. I agree texting while driving is dangerous BUT the government has no business sticking their nose in it. The government already has it's nose stuck in every corner of our lives. They dictate and regulate far to many things that should be left up to the individual at hand.

I believe distracted driving is already illegal.


It is already covered. Do we need a law against eating lobster behind the wheel too. What about sneezing? I can't do that with out closing my eyes, so it should be illegal to drive if you suffer from allergies as well.

Since I drive a little slower than the speed limit, and when as an ambulance driver I had to go gather up some folks who were rear ended on the open road, there being no reason for the accident, and seeing people running over deer in broad daylight in wide open country, I am deathly afraid of people using the cell phone while driving. I quit driving the ambulance when a kid was driving the ambulance and texting for 20 miles one day. 

That said I don't think another law is an answer. Pass another law is always a knee jerk reaction, and often there are unintended consequences. They say drunk driving accidents are way down lately because of education efforts.

If there were specific laws that outlawed every stupid act that humans commit then near 100% of the population would have to be jailed
