I have held my tongue waiting on just this clarification.
As a very new guy I do not have the same vision as most.  I do understand though fighting the good fight.  Once you take a position you will always run into people who for no other reason seem just to want to fight.  I have learned and appreciated your knowledge and insights into topics.

If it were possible I would hope you could remain Moderator and just judicature the workings of the postings.  You seem fair and capable of remaining impartial.  That said this forum seems to be as you said a lightning rod for bad behavior.  You have kept alot of us safe, and have taken alot of flam-attacks that many people would have received from trolls and bomb makers that insist on not learning the correct way to do things.

Again I would like to say I have enjoyed your tenor here and it is in no small part to your efforts that I think this is by far one of the best repositories of knowledge on this limited subject.

Good luck and may the wind be always favorable.

Since this thread has now gone to a second page I am bringing my message over to the second page so it is not lost.

Based on some comments here, and the comments in the email and PM's I have been getting, I need to clear the air about something.

Lately, I have grown more and more weary fighting the same battles over and over again; max powder  charge, thinner barrels , and welded seam liner.  The attacks have become more and more vicious of late.

I have always been a lightening rod on these discussions.  I willingly accepted that role.  Unfortunately I find this role to be more and more disruptive on the board and wearing on me.

I  told Tim, a week or so ago, I have had enough.  Tim said, “if you go I go.”

I am only gone as moderator.  I am still around but will not be taking part in the heavy discussions. There will be no daily post from me.  I will report on projects and nothing more.

Tim was the person who fronted the idea for this board. I only seconded his motion. Even though I was the more vocal and more visible moderator, I have always considered this Tim's board.

I appreciate Tim's loyalty to me, but he doesn't  need to leave  because I step down.

I want him to continue on as the moderator...or at least as Moderator Emeritus.

Now that Cat Wisperer's decision is known, Mike and I want to thank him just as we thanked Doubled D. for all those hundreds of good things that he did for this board.

Tim,     Just the way an Infantryman appreciates having the support of a competent Tube Artilleryman within range, this Old Infantryman sure appreciates you, a Senior Artilleryman and the way you gave each "Newbie" a warm and wonderful welcome.  With such a great start to their GBO Mortar and Cannon experience, is it a wonder that many are still with us?

    Thank you,

Mike and Tracy

mod·er·a·tor noun \ˈmä-də-ˌrâ-tər\
Definition of MODERATOR

3: a substance (as graphite) used for slowing neutrons in a nuclear reactor

That sometimes seems to be the most appropriate one for this forum.

Thanks one and all.

After a while, I'll be dropping from time to time.

Let me add a bit to what DD has said.

The forum was my request to Graybeard, and Douglas and I developed this over the years.  It has been and remains a good relationship.  But it is time for a change.

The forum belongs to the users.

We have (and have had) a number of great sponsors.  Thier funding the process, participation and encouragement has made the experience fun and possible.

The forum will undoubtedly change in the next year or so, and that is OK.

Y'all know the different roles that Douglas and I have played.  Whomever moderates WILL do it differently, and that's OK.

The new moderator(s) need to have the freedom to morph this board to meet the needs of those participating.

Thanks, again, to ALL.

Or at least consistent.  I don't care if they are "fair" since one persons "fair" can be another persons "unfair."  But if they are consistent in how they wield the axe I don't much care if they are petty tyrants.

I guess I need to keep an eye on the fine print.  It's 1:38 AM as I type this so don't expect any policy statements until later, but generally speaking, things are going to be much the same, only the names have changed.

I think a party is in order!

Unfortunately, I am on the opposite side of the country from you and Doug is 1400 miles away or I would be happy to host a party celebrating your and Doug's achievements with the BPM&C forum.

In fact, if you are willing to travel, I will host, although the weather is "winter" in southern California right now.

Come up here to NY, the weather is pretty mild. We only have about 1/4" of snow and about 2" this whole winter.
