Encore problems, HELP
« on: January 19, 2004, 05:47:23 AM »
My son and I just got our first Encore in 22-250 w/26" heavy bbl and synthetic stock.  We mounted Leupold QD base and rings with a Leupold 3x9  Vari-X II on it.

The first shot with a Harris bi-pod on the front, the sling stud ripped out!  Is the a common weakness problem, should we epoxy it back in or send it back to TC.

It shoots basket ball sized group at 100 yds with PMC shells and orange size groups with Federal Premium loaded with 55 gr BT/HP Sierra Game King.  Several threads recommended to shoot at least 60 to 75 rounds through it to smooth out any rough places in the bore.  We will try to tighen groups with handloads after that.

The Game King bullet is awesome on medium sized Texas whitetails.  My son shot one this weekend with it.  The bullet was under the skin on the off side after hitting a rib upon entry and taking out one lung and a lobe of the liver.  It mushroomed perfectly with complete transfer of energy.  The deer dropped in her tracks and never moved.

The additional weight of the bipod can cause the mounting stud to pull out of the wood or in this case synthetic material.  What I recommend is that  you get a set of studs that have the fine threaded front stud with the round nut.  This small nut goes on the inside of the forend and prevents the stud from pulling free.
