yep, man they start'n to go pre-nuts ;D ... seena doe come out this morn'n witha buck's nose attached to her  ;)   they were bout 200yrds away cross'n tha creek bed so hadta let'um ride with the 45/70 sited in for 100 or less.
i'm gunna be there this afternoon wif bells an whistles on !!! ;)  in uther words....my whelen ;D

Yep same here, been seeing a lot of rubs lately but not to many scrapes. Most of the scrapes I've been seeing were made but not worked over again.The problem where I live just north of Pensacola bout the time they come into rut hunting season is almost over. gendoc any extra you have left over y'all send them over this way and I'll take care of the surplus. :)

John, I don't know what .45-70 load you're shooting, but with mine, I'd hold on the top line of his back and put him in the freezer.  The last buck I shot with the .45-70 was two years ago.  He was at 220 yards and I almost missed him holding too high above his back.  I spined him and he dropped right there.  I didn't have any time to think about it.  It was instinctive, shoot then or forget it.  In a lot of ways, long shots with a .45-70 are like shooting a longbow.

I hope you get him.

well i got skunked this time.......... :'(
front is moving in and i waited too late.
shuda hadit this morn'n.
 
pete i did'nt want to take any chances on a foul shot.  i know all bouts them holdover figures ::)  i've shotta few in my time.  my 45/70 handloads are for < 100yrds
yall gotta remember, i raised most these critters so i must take them clean.
thats my honor.
 
all the kids,grandkids and outlaws have had there time.
and they done gud... but the time is for me and j2 now so we be hunt'n hard
for tha next 3 weeks.
no more food plots......only swamp bottoms and hardwoods  it makes tha odds
more challanging ;D  we jus gotta give them bucks a chance ::)
 
tomorrow isa nuther day when tha front passes ;)
