H&R TOPPER MODEL 158 410 Gauge P. What does the p stand for and can you shoot 3 inch shells thanks

The "P" indicates the barrel has been factory proof fired. Your Topper model 158 barrel was chambered for 3" shells. 
 
Are you sure there is not a 3" anywhere in the barrel stamping?

I think all 158 barrels were 3" inna .410.. ;)   I have an AF prefix 410 with the snap on fore end ..It's marked exactly the same as yours and I've had no problems shooting both lengths out of it..

ps. went an measured mine to be sure and it's definitely a 3"..
