Virgin Valley BBls and T/C forends.
« on: January 17, 2004, 04:53:40 PM »
Im looking at a Virgin Valley custom barrel for a secondary project when I get the Encore (hopefully) next month.  I see they mention they use some kind of bar hanger system for the forend mounting.  What my question is, can the T/C factory forends be used on these barrels?  If not and I do have to get a VV forend, how does their wood match to T/C wood.  I dont want to have to buy another buttstock for around $160 if I dont have to.  Id like to use the factory buttstock and buy the forend if possible, but I do want the two to at least LOOK like they are the same color and general grain.  So can anyone give me the info?
Thanks

You can have the barrel made to the factory contor and use the same forearm. The hanger bar uses a VV  or altered factory forearm with machined channel to fit the hanger bar. The butt stocks all fit the same.

Virgin Vally will gladley adapt YOUR forend for their hanger bar system.  I think they charge $50-60.  Check with them though, I believe their std hanger bar is based on super 14 forend screw spacing.  Not a problem unless you have a bunch of carbine bbls already or intend to puchase more non-custom carbine bbls in the future.

Bullberry sells altered TC rynite forends altered for their hanger bar which is based carbine forend screw spacing.  Don't know if BullBerry sells alter TC wood forends..........I'm sure they would also adapt your forend.

***Oops!  Went back and re-read your post and realized you were speaking of the Encore.***  Never posed the question to VV with regard to the Encore and their forend screw spacing of their hanger bar.  Either way, I bet they can fix up your forend so you're not buying new wood.

If your wood forend is compatible with the future barrel you are planning to buy, you can ship it to Steve and he will modify it for the hanger bar system. If the forarm you currently have will not work with the new barrel, then you can buy a forarm from VV for suggested retail and then they will modify it for the hanger bar system.

What will detemine whether or not your current forend will work or not will depend on what type new custom barrel you choose. If it is the same style barrel as the one you currently have, chances are you won't need to purchase a new forend. At any rate if you do need to buy a new one, Steve can use a factory forend to modify, so it should match your current buttstock.

OK, Im thinking just getting a forend right from VV will be the way to go (Im actually thinking of getting one with a shnable tip for looks since its only an added $25 or so.)  But Im still curious how well T/Cs wood rifles buttstock will look with the VV forend.  Does anyone know what grade and wood type will match T/Cs rear?
Thanks,

Your best bet would be to contact VV and ask your question diresct.

BTW... your chances  of a match from T/C is a hit and miss anyway.
