Dress up your shotgun barrels!
« on: April 06, 2011, 05:23:31 PM »
Materials: China Marker pens, old credit card, rubbing alcohol, cotton ball
Wipe off all oil and dirt with alcohol, let dry.
I used the yellow marker for the 20 gauge (duh!), red for the 12 ga, and white for the 410.
Use the credit card to push the color inside the letters and scrape off the excess.
Dab with alcohol to "melt" the ink into the letters and seal them.

Took me less than 5 minutes to do all 3 barrels.
SB1 and SB2 receivers
.223 bull barrel with scope rail
12, 20, and .410 gauge smooth bore barrels
(next on wish list: .357 and .44 mag barrels)

One of the gun shops I used to visit, would do that in white for the serial numbers.  Used Liquid paper so it would fall out over time and not harm the gun.

Looks good.
May have to get out the marker.

They look like a pencil with a soft large diameter crayon for the lead. They "peel" the exterior off with a string imbedded with that core. It's actually tightly wrapped scored paper on the outside.

I'm certain you have run across them at some point.

NICE idea BTW!!!!

We used to call them grease pencils but I believe China Marker is correct. Kurt

Thanks Don.

My grandmother used to use those for bingo...I doubt that there are any still kicking around her house as she has been passed away for quite some time now...I think they add a nice touch.  Doubtful that I would need more than one of those for a lifetime of use.

I like that you used yellow on the 20 and red on the 12 to match the shell color on each gauge.  Good thinking.

Great idea, and it makes it easier for those of us with "slightly bad" vision, to see the correct gauge of the barrel.  Especially in low light.
