What Are the Top AMERICAN-Made Cars
« on: January 24, 2012, 06:30:57 AM »
Cars.com's American-Made Index rates vehicles built and bought in the U.S. Factors include sales, where the car's parts come from and whether the car is assembled in the U.S. We disqualify models with a domestic parts content rating below 75 percent, models built exclusively outside the U.S. or models soon to be discontinued without a U.S.-built successor.

You might be surprised or not surprised at the list ..

IMHO Chevy and Ford have come along ways since the dark days when most of their stuff was junk. Chrysler not so much except for kudos in styling. Counting the two I currently own I have owned four Honda Accords and they have been great cars. At work I have been able to drive a 2010 Taurus and I must say I am very impressed but do not know how it will do after a couple 100,000 or so miles. The 91 Accord four cylinder that I use to drive had just under 300K when I bought a newer one. Engine and drivetrain were still very good (at that point I was starting to use about a half a quart of oil in 5,000 miles.).

I am surprised to see the Malibu on the list. I didn't expect to see any non-trucks in the list from the old big 3 makers. Am also surprised to see that there's an assembly plant in Chicago. Wonder what kind of deals they got to keep it there.

I'm glad to see that. I rented one about five years ago and it was an absolute death trap that felt like it was going to fall apart at any speed above 60mph. Words to the wise are to avoid that earlier generation of Malibu.
