Bore lead/throat depth?'s
« on: January 16, 2012, 08:14:32 PM »
Got a new 25-06 a few weeks ago, is it common for Handi's to have a ton of lead / freebore whatever you call it?
I can just start the bullet into the case and its nowhere near touching the lands.
My bolt guns like a little bit of jump on the start but this seems like a LOT!

I've loaded up some rounds at different depths to see what difference it might make. I guess I was just wandering if I'm wasting my time.

My 30-30 does, the .243 I had did.   My 30-30 loads with 150 gr Nosler Ballistic tips are 2.710 IIRC and come nowhere close to the rifling.  I'm sure bullet shape does influence this but its still quite long

All of my handis have a long throght. I just seat them to manufacturer suggested length and call it a day.

You must not have a factory chambered 45-70 barrel. ::)

I started with 85 grain Bal Tip cause that's what I had, of course it would'nt reach.
The rifle doesnt seem to like those light bullets either
Loaded some 100 grain solid base Nosler yesterday. Hope to get to the range tomorrow.
