I would suggest if you want the finest in craftsmanship and quality, you look at either a Shiloh or a C Sharps.

Second place in the singleshot world would likely have to go to the Miroku built 1885's. Again outsanding finish inside and out.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

Lone Star may be out of the picture.  The owner died while pulling his rifle from the truck yesterday.  It discharged and killed him.

Oh Christ  :o  what a stupid basic mistake to make. I feel for his family.

Latest word is that it was an AR-15.  Strange thing to happen to a man who's been shooting his entire life.

Anyone who would want to demean foreign made single shot rifles has never held, carried or fired a Blaser K95.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, look at the CVA Scout.  I have one in .44 magnum and it shoots well.  It's made in Spain.

The Pedersoli rifles I've shot have been more accurate than the Shilohs I've shot.  I want a Shiloh and I may buy one but it's annoying that they aren't remarkably accurate for the price they charge.  I want the Business Rifle with a 28" barrel.

You've got good taste Swampy... that's a fine rifle. ;)

Thompson Center Encore is my choice for an accurate single shot rifle. The T/C G2 Contender is a very good choice also if the cartridges fit your needs.

I have had over 14 T/C Encore factory barrels without one single problem with frame fit or accuracy. They fit well as a comfortable shooter, my 13 year old daughter has taken 2 deer with mine the past 2 years, and she loves it.

Ruger's would be my next choice for a fixed barrel rifle.

Handi's are good for some people but not me, no thank you.

Now for the cream of the crop and sparing no expense would be the Dakota Model 10 single-shot rifle. Absolutely stunning accuracy and beautiful beyond means, but comes at a high price. Reachable only after winning the mega million lottery.

My T/C Encore setup is 26" 209x50, 24" 233 Remington, 24" 338-06 A-Square and 12" 454 Casull. Yes my T/C Encore I purchased as a pistol which also raises the bar against other interchangeable single shot platforms.

Personally, I wish Savage/Stevens would bring back their 44 1/2.  I don't understand why American companies have more or less completely sceded the western rifle market to foreign makers.  Marlin makes a cowboy carbine, but Mossberg doesn't.  Puma/Rossi  owns the entry level of that type of gun with Uberti taking it from there up the price chain.  If you want a single shot for cowboy action shooting, you kind of have to buy Itallian or handmade.  If Stevens upscaled their 'favorite' for revolver rounds and rifles from 30-30 to 45-70 and reintroduced it as a revived 44 1/2 they would be nearly alone in that end of the market and American made.  They would even have the advantage of being the original manufacturer of a gun with real history.

Jl, right here in America, Dingman's Ferry, PA, to be exact is a company that has been making high end Sevens 44 1/2s for years.  It is called CPA. Go to www.singleshotrifles.com, and look them up. Very beautiful, very accurate, w/interchangeable barrels, and in interesting calibers. Worth a look, if you are looking in the C Sharps/Shiloh price range.

As for EA Brown, their single shots appear interesting, but their proprietary calibers? Don't know. The owner is a real POW to deal with, though. Very moody.

Whilst I am not a fan of the Barvarian stock style you could probably specify a different stock style. Now Swampy does not like them but if Remington decided to put their brand on them they would suddenly magically become the best thing since sliced bread  ;D .

Of course it's all down to personal taste. I don't happen to like the look of the Encore or Contenders. Others love them. I happen to like this particular rifle a lot:-

They are very nicely made indeed. Not shott he mono cannon ( Single barrel) but did get to sample a 8x57JRS Double SxS a few years back and it was superb  8) .

The T/Cs are hideous too.  If Remington made them they would style them to not be hideous.

Blasers and T/C's.  Hmm,  excellent rifles mechanically, but I've got to go with Swampman on this one.  Hideous.  "Euro Euro Euro."

To me, they call to mind the pictures and videos of modern German and Austrian businessmen, with their stupid Bavarian hunting outfits and hats (including lederhosen), shooting "wild" boar or red deer in an 80 acre enclosure somewhere at a "lodge" in Central Europe.

I'll bet they never travel farther than 200 yards from their BMWs.

Wow!. Hideous and stupid are very strong words.  It's not being fair to foreign built guns. Some are of superb quality. Some are not. We all have our particular taste in what we like. But it's unfair to make a blanket statement. We have to differentiate between quality and taste. If we don't like it on the basis of taste, it's one thing. But to "slam" globally with respect to quality of build is another. Like it or not there are some really well-built foreign made guns out there. Did someone mention Soroka? Talk about a quality build.  Not for everyone's pocket. But even the original was superb. Just cause you don't like it doesn't make it bad. TC builds a really good firearm in the US, that is within everyman's budget (mostly). It really is good. Not everyone's taste, but it is well_built.

The High and low walls refer to the caliber.  The High wall was large case and the low wall was smaller cases.

Uberti maks some nice falling and rolling blocks....

Funny, cause I thought the High Wall was called  High Wall because it had High Walls, and a Low Wall was called a Low Wall cause it had Low Walls.    Compare the two via pictures, you'll see what I mean....     it had NOTHING to do with the Cartridges.

oh... and I just bought a used (20rds) Uberti Baby RB in 357 and it is a thing of beauty

I thought the High wall had the high walls to accept the larger diameter barrels of the larger bore calibers.  The high walls helped to accept the recoil of the "buffalo rounds"  the added metal added strength. Think triangle.
The low wall took smaler diameter barrels of the smaller caliber strait walled cases.
We are talking about the original Winchester 1885 rifles and not the current copies that can be had in any number of calibers in either.
The rolling blocks came in many frame sizes too.
I had a small one in 32 RF Long, I think it was a No 2 1/2. that was slightly larger than the No 4 22 LR.  The 1 was the 45-70 size, the 2 was the 7X57 size.

I really like the Luxus SS rifle you have Eskimo...  ;) I love high grade wood, and see nothing about the Luxus I don't like. And as I understand it extra barrels in different calibers can be ordered with the rifle.

Beauty is different things to different folks. To me, the european SS stalking rifles are very good looking rifles. I like the "Hog Back" style stock as well. And I've owned and used several. They work for me. I know it's a personal thing but most bolt action rifles are ugly to my eye, and clumbsey to carry & shoot.  :o

I do like my new Chapuis double rifle. Feels good in the hand, & balances like a find rifle should. Unlike those Fence post feeling bolt guns...

It is a Luxus Model 11. (Luuxusarms.com) Some friends of mine in Ohio produce it.  All American made by skilled craftsmen in Mt Orab, Ohio.   It is a very nice balanced easy carrying rifle.

I would vote for the C. Sharps version of the Win 1885 Hiwall, since you can customize the barrel length, caliber, and stock style for not much extra.  Extra cost over a Japanese "1885" is worth it to me--I just like the company and the fact that you can go to Big Timber and see how they are made and talk to the men and women who are actually gonna make YOUR rifle.  Since I don't like rimless ctgs. in a traditional single shot, their selection of calibers suits me fine.  I have a .44-40 because that "pistol" caliber is acceptable on all ranges including indoor ranges in CA, and a .30-40 for hunting big stuff.  (Some of my handloads for the .44-40 are NOT pistol ammunition!).

I also have 2 Ruger #1s and like them a lot.  And a custom Martini Cadet in .25-35.  And some  "real" Winchester 1885s, a Hiwall .38-40, a re-barreled .30-40, and a Lowall .25-20.

But if I had to have ONE single shot rifle, it would be a T-C G2 Carbine, because you can "make" it into so many guns by switching barrels (and stocks if you want to).  So far mine is a 17" .22WRM for varmints, a 20" .32-20 to go with my Colt "Army Special" revolver, and a .410 for cottontails and "things that go 'bump' in the night."  (I'm looking for a 28 ga. shotgun barrel for it for quail hunting and skeet).  It isn't traditional and it sure is ugly, but it really shoots, is very handy to carry, and is great value for the money.  It WILL handle big game cartridges in a very handy package, too.  I just have other guns for that.
