But my 357 hawes western marshall outshoot my friends colt python, the load was 6grains of unique, 158grain lead round nose bullet, the target was a official size bowling pin, same shooter [me]. 25 shots [5 at a time] at 25 yards offhand no leaning against the bench. The hawes hit 24 out of 25 the python hit 19 out of 25. All i am saying is that more expensive does not always mean better.thanks for reading pghrich,[ pics will come next time out][/me]

I will answer all your questions but first let me say that i am not bashing the python in any way, i just wanted to prove to myself that buying a cheap gun is not always a bad thing.

9. my gun of course
10. there was just the two of us there and i was [as said earlier] trying to prove something to myself.

my post has nothing to do with value, i realize that a python is worth more than a hawes, my point is sometimes you dont have to spend a lot of money to get good results, no more no less, pghrich

Then you are cherrying picking what you use to determine BETTER. Sure a cheap gun may be accurate one time with hand loads that don't repsent what factory ammo would do or other shooters. And sure the steel in the bbl. may last for a short period before losing accuracy. If resale and value aren't included then you are kidding yourself .

First off the hawes is already about 50 years old and i have no way of telling how much its been shot before i got it but i personally put several hundred rounds thru it in the short time i have had it,so i think it has probaly proven itself for durability. The point i am trying to make is that i only paid about $270.00 for it and i was excited that it shoots so well compared to a high dollar revolver, again i am not stupid enough to think that the hawes has the resale value of a python, actually it was just chance that thats the gun my friend had with him that day. I really did not mean this to be a hawes vs python thread, pghrich

I am happy he got a great shooter . I hate to see someone get a ( with respect) lesser priced/value gun and then use one example to what seems like a cut to a well established gun with a good reputation of quality and usefulness proven in combat and the field. And felt it nessary to point that out.

Would I take a Python over a Hawes, yes in a heartbeat. That being said I owned a Hawes .22 SA and was very pleased with it. A bit later I owned a Colt .22 SA. I never could shoot as well with that Colt and it was not as close to POA as the Hawes. Was the Hawes better, overall not close. Maybe it was the overall fit to me individually or it was an exceptional Hawes and a not so great Colt in that instance. Boils down to what you can afford, what you want and what works for you.

Again i am NOT bashing colt, i may have gotton a little over excited about my shooting test, heck if my friend had his s&wm28, or his ruger blachhawk i would have been saying sorry smith or sorry ruger owners. bty i am 63 yeats old and have been shooting handguns for at least 40 of those years and rifle a lot longer, i have had at one time in my life about every type and brand of handgun you can name,[i did electrical work for a guy that owned a gun shop]. pghrich[/i]

I have a queston PGHRICH. I have a JP Sauer 45LC western and i have heard that they went through Hawes when they came from Germany. Do you know anything about that?

The difference between Top shooters and the wannabees is class. It has nothing to do with the cost of the firearm. A winner is known he never has to brag on himself.
