Missed a big one tonight!
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:06:29 PM »
I decided to go out before the snow hits figuring the yotes would be more active befire the snow hits -rest of the week is going to be crappy to say the least.  I hadn't been out for awhile cause the yote just don't seem to be around the lower elevations do to lack of snow up high. Anyway I sat out and called for the first hour or so nothing ,zip.  So it was getting close to sun down  and I was getting cold - was only in the high 20's here.  Well on the road on the way out a BIG old yote goes flying across the road about 200 yards in front of me going towards the mountain-road runs along the base- he was going up a draw and I had a nice nole between him and I so I stopped and got out- waited to see if he was going cross in front of me and stay low. Well I didn't see him running up the side of the mountain so I figured he stop some where's in the draw. So I crepped up the rise trying to see him and finally spotted him about 250 yards out.   Well I thought  I got a good  shot off  when the Rem 7400 barked  and when I got the scope back down he was a running up that mountain so I  shot 4 more on the run but it was pointless he was cruzing in warp speed.   :o   He's probably still running! ;D
God he was a pretty one too nice full coat! ;D

I have seen them come in fast but leave much much faster ;D ;D  this usually happens when I screw up in "marginal" wind conditions and they pick up my scent.

I managed to miss one Saturday afternoon. The weather was a bit nicer for me than you. I was wearing a t-shirt. I'm still trying to figure how I missed such an easy shot.  I was shooting my Contender carbine and I just stood there and watched him run away. I later killed a caliche rock at about the same distance as the coyote was and did it twice. That proved that it wasn't the gun or ammo, just me.

Yea I figure it was the operator as well - should have took my time -rushed the first shot some.  I guess I was surprised he was still in range more then anything.  Usually when you see them runnin they just keep going! ;D   What I should have done was give him a call as I had my caller around my neck- kicking my butt for not doing it now! ::)
