2400 and my .460 encore
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:09:27 AM »
hi guys , brand new here thought i would say howdy  and ask a general  question

i recently got the 15 inch .460 s-w  barrel for my encore , and not having a lot of experiance with pistol cartridges i started looking for data .none of my manuals have much data for the .460
so i looked online and found   lots of data for powders such as 110  lil gun and related powders
but one thing i didnt find was data for  good old reliable easy to find everyone has it  ,  2400

is there something i am missing here  ....  2400  just seems to  be nearly perfect  for general use in the .460

The Alliant website is down right now, but they listed 2400 for the 460S&W in their 2011 reloader's guide, it's a big file at 9.62Mb, so I can't attach it.

That's an approximately 1.5 inch 200 yard group out of my Encore 460 S&W Magnum handgun using Hornady 250 gr. SST/ML bullets.  It is a hot load giving a muzzle velocity of about 2,350 fps out of a braked 15 inch barrel.  Pressure is probably a little over 60,000 psi (the Encore is rated for 65,000 psi) and I only get 3 or 4 loadings out of a case before I have to toss them.  The load is not something I would publish on the internet but if PM me I would give it to you.

thank you guys ,  im glad to see  that i wasnt wrong in thinking  2400 would be a good choice .
just that the lack of data kinda threw me for a loop  ..  i was thinking i had missed something  and that there was actualy something 2400 didnt work in ...

grumulkin ,  thank  you sir for the offer  but i have a feeling  im going to quit long long before i reach the velocities  your at  ,  i'm hoping to get aceptable acuracy somewhere  around  1500-1600 fps
