Nice midday squirrel hunt.
« on: January 26, 2012, 03:12:10 AM »
Had some time, yesterday, and decided to go squirrel hunting.  There is less than a week left in our squirrel season , here in Indiana.  Because of being close to some buildings, and the chance at a running bunny, I decided to take my 20 ga. pardner.  Hunted for about 1 1/2 hrs, and finally dusted 2 squirrels.  1 oz. loads of # 6 shot did the trick, and neither were shot up.

If the weather cooperates, gonna try and get back out Fri./Sat.

Nice sized ones too!  Squirrel hunting is always fun.

sure nice to see some fox squirrels. here theres not many (fox) but the jack pine, grey, black and flying squirrels make up for the lack of the reds. Ironically red squirrels are not native to the US but to england. here in wisconsin you can keep a red squirrel as a pet but none of the others because of that fact that they are considered non-native, and now you've had your squirrel lesson for the day ;D

Yep considered a pest here in MI and no closed season.  Just need a small game license.  I don't like em cause they de-nut the slower/bigger foxies.  I do my best to cull them down too.  Only way I eat their tough little butts though is in soup.  ;)  Makes a MEAN squirrel potatoe soup with em though.  ;)

Went back out yesterday, and managed to get one more.  They weren't moving very good.  That may be the end, for this season.  Indiana squirrel season closes tues., and the weather isn't looking too good.  Another pic.  It's a little blurry, but you get the idea.  ;D
