22LR to 17HMR Conversion

Theoretically since the .17HMR is a .22Magnum rimfire necked down to .17Caliber.  And since the .22LR OAL is shorter than the .17HMR, is it possible to rechamber a .22LR Versa-Pack barrel to .17HMR?
 
If so would it be worth it or should I wait and hopefully try to purchase a .17HMR Versa-Pack barrel?

The last option would be to just buy a new H&R .17HMR with the SS1 (rimfire) receiver.

Any thoughts or comments on this would be appreciated, I got a bug to buy a new Handi.

You could rechamber, but to reline the barrel to .17 from .224 would cost more than a new gun.  I just picked up a Sportster with the new style synthetic in .17, and a couple boxes ammo and tax for under $200.

mechanic - I must have been asleep when I typed that one.  :-[ Duhh! Ouch!  :P forgot all about the barrel diameter, was just thinking about the OAL.  Actually, what I was thinking (is lusting after, [ala Jimmy Carter] a better word?) about PHATINJUNs' .17HMR Versa-Pack barrel.

I'm gonna take your advice, and just pickup the Sportster.  Sorry about wasting everybody's time with a dumb question. :P :-[
