Gap between barrel end and receiver question....
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:03:52 AM »
Hi, I have a 12ga. Pardner that I bought used. It needed a transfer bar which I bought from Numerichs and installed that with nor problems. I didn't notice at first but if I hold the gun up to a light I can see a little space where the barrel meets the receiver. I measured the space with quality guages and it is between .003 and .0035 inches. Is this safe? The gun does appear to lock up ok with no movement.  Thanks

probably ok, but I would try a .003 maybe .oo2 shim on the hinge pin and see if it tightens it up a hair more.

Scattergun barrels aren't as critical and a rifle barrel for fit, as long as the barrel is tight with the forend removed, shoots and ejects fine, I wouldn't worry about it, it's probably just the barrel face that isn't true.
