Talk front sight
« on: January 30, 2012, 05:12:00 PM »
Ok, the front sight on my brand new about-to-be-a-Maxi-tomorrow .357 Talo may well be the tallest blade sight I have ever seen. Is this necessary because of the forward mounted rear sight? Does it limit the range of adjustment when sighting in? Have any of you who have them already replaced the front sight and if so, why and with what? I have yet to shoot it and will be sticking with iron sights exclusively planning on it being a brush gun with maximum ranges of 125 yards.

kevin,

Some of the handis have been shipped with an incorrect front sight but I don't remember anyone mentioning this with the 357 Talo barrel.   I removed these sights from my barrel as soon as I brought the gun home so I don't know how it would have shot.  I do seem to remember the front sight was kinda tall.   I would use the front sight as an excuse to immediately go to the range and test fire your new barrel.  If the front sight is too tall a dremel w/stone and some touchup blueing can solve the problem.

If it's too tall for the barrel sight, it's probably good for an aperture sight mounted in the scope base holes, something many here have asked for!!  8)

I was able to sight mine in with no problem, using 158 gr. ammo. If I remember correctly I had to raise the rear sight near the top of the base, but I didn't run out of room at 100 yds.
FWIW, I max'd my Talo Trapper...easy job with a serious increase in power, can't reccommend doing it enough.

I had the same idea, Tim.  I've been planning to look into such a set-up, but haven't quite gotten to it yet.  What have others here done to lengthen sight radius?

See Peep and Firesights in the FAQs first of all, check out site sponsor Skinner Sights too, they have a forum down the index page.

I'm already in the process of Max-ing out my Talo. And Tim was that sighted at 100 with the Max or Magnum? If the Max I should be fine, can't see this gun being sighted at longer with what I plan to use it for.
