The Stupid Tax
« on: January 14, 2012, 02:20:13 PM »
I have always contended there is a tax you pay as a stupid person. The stupid are by and large the victims of every sort of scam you can think of. They are paid lower wages doing the exact same amount of work, example, stupid person likes his joint every friday night therefore he can't pass a drug screening, and must accept the low wage offers from the rogue construction companies. Buying the $2.00 bottle of catsup rather than the $2.75 catsup even though by ounce it is three times more expensive. Seems stupid people are able to injure themselves better too, one need only watch a few  You Tube skateboarding videos. The list is nearly endless.

I have tried to impress upon the youth I run into the value of math skills as well as keeping their noses clean. I try to get them to think in a linear fashion some don't seem to be able to grasp the concept.

Dave Ramsey defines the Stupid Tax as the price you pay for making the stupid decisions that we all occasionally make.  The positive point is that we should learn from those  stupid decisions and not make (the same ones) again.  But there is a segment of the population that does not seem to be able to correlate their stupid decisions they make with the results that follow.  Somehow the stupid are more susceptible to advertising and are hooked into paying more of the little money that they have for the "brand" items because they feel that they deserve it.  Their motto seems to be "Never save a buck when you can!"

You know, I just look at my friends and their families, and at my own family, there is all the proof one needs.  My good friend XXXX for instance.  He was not the brightest bulb in the pack in his younger days.  He married a high school drop out, and had three kids.  She was doing pot, and thought he was not supporting her and her kids in the manner she wanted.  She divorced him and demanded high child support, and she got it.  XXXX was paying the price at this point, working him self half to death at two and three jobs to make his support payments.  His exwife and kids was still living in poverty in Detroit.

Then he made another unsmart move, he met a hot young woman and got married.  Nine months later their first child was born, one year later their second came along.  At this point his oldest from the first marriage came over and asked if he would sign for him to go into the military.  The kid was not old enough to go in without his parents signature.  XXX signed, his child support payments went down some.  Two years later the third child arrived, then one more year the fourth child came along.  At least his child support ended at this time.  Now XXXX began to get smart.  XXXX and his wife decided no more kids.  He's still working two jobs to support his family, but wife decided she needed to help him out.  She went to nursing school, and became an RN.  They also decided to move to Alaska, and get out of Detroit.  Once here things got a lot easier for them.  She went to work at the hospital in Fairbanks, he went to work as a mechanic.  The oldest graduated high school and went on to UAF on a scholarship to get her Bachlors degree.  The second did the same thing, but continued on to get her Masters Degree.  The third kid, a boy decided not to go to college, but did take an automotive course for his ASE certification.  The fourth another girl, graduated with my son from high school.  She decided college was too hard, and dropped out.  XXXX decided it was time for him to go back to school himself.

Of his first batch of kids, one boy and two girls, the boy is doing great.  He is still in the military, married with two kids, and living a good life.  The two girls both dropped out of high school and are living at the poverty level.  (Stupid Tax)  They hate their father and his new family.

The second batch of kids, three girls and a boy, are doing better.  The oldest has a very good paying job with the State Of Alaska.  Owns her own home, and is thinking about getting married next year.  The second is a professor at a university in North Carolina, and married to an Army Officer, and she has one kid.  The third, the boy has a good paying job at a big gold mine.  Owns his home, has a big boat that his Dad and I use occasionally, and he collects and restores old classic cars and trucks.  the last one dropped out of college, she keeps coming back to Mom and Dads to live, when she looses her low paying jobs.  Mom finally said "No More" and threw her out to make her own way in the world.  Now I hear she is getting married, poor guy.  He will be paying the stupid tax, for how long?  Don't know, but hope he wises up soon.  XXXX just graduated UAF at Christmas break, and has had several interviews for some very good paying jobs as a Mechanical Engineer, this week.  He sure has paid a lot of "Stupid Tax".

My hunting partner YYYY, has two girls.  First girl took advantage of Mom's position at UAF with free tution.  She got her degree, and went on to Law School.  Second girl started school at UAF, but dropped out to get married to a young military troop.

Today the first girl has two little girls and is an assistant District Attorney.  Married to a well to do businessman, living in a huge home.  Girls are going to a private school, and doing well.  They (the little girls) are showing they have Mom's drive to do things.

The second girl found her husband was doing drugs, so she tried to protect him.  He was kicked out of the military.  YYYY called in a favor and got his son-in-law a good job in Colorado.  His drug habit got him fired, and eventually after he went to prison she divorced him.  Today she and her two daughters live in poverty.  YYYY and I have tried to convince her to move back to Alaska, where she can have some help, but she refuses to leave Colorado.  Too embarrased to come home and accept help, she and her daughters are paying the "stupid tax".

That's enough, going to my family would take two or three more pages.  We've some real winners and losers in my family.  Lots of "Stupid Taxes" there.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

As the Duke said, "you can't fix stupid", but some do wise up.  The rest just have to pay the price.  It has always been that way, and always will.  A wealthy friend once told me, that if you lay a million dollars on every doorstep in America, and step back and watch, within a few months or years, every one would wind up about where they were originally.  Watching the saga of lottery winners, I believe he is correct.

  Howdy Fellows:
I've often wondered if it is possible to teach people to be wise with money issues or is it something that is innate and maybe it can be sharpened-up. You can see members of a family who were basically raised the same way and some are prosperous and others barely get by.
  Hey  mechanic:
I too have heard that if the wealth of the world was divided up equally and given to the total earth's population, in a short period of time the ones who originally had the money would have it again,,,,,,,,,,,,it's probably true.

it is possible to teach people, but in my experience only when they are young and impressionable. once they are older and set in their ways it is impossible.
it is interesting also how some folks can be raised in the same manner and turn out totally different. ive seen it with my brother and sister. my brother has basically the same outlook on money as me and is well off while my sister raised in the same houshold is completely inept with money.
i also think its interesting to watch stupid people and learn from their mistakes. they dont seem to!

Generally being stupid and making stupid decisions has its own dire consequences for the ones that are being stupid. It would be ok being stupid, if the consequences for being stupid just fell on the ones being stupid, but many times the consequences of ones stupid actions falls on others. Like being stupid at the voting booth, being stupid while driving, or while handling a firearm.
I do think that our government that claims they are protecting us are a large part of why there seems to be so many people that, well, appear to be stupid. They are doing it by making people stupid, with control of our education system. What better way to gain control and remove freedom from people, if they are made stupid about things that really matter. You want to smoke dope, snort crank, or shoot herion, no problem if you can't get a job, or afford to live, government will provide you food, and housing, for you and all your illegitimate kids.   Sure we have people that know everything there is to know about a computer, we have technicians, engineers, and all sorts of people that are deemed intelligent, but do we have enough people that have wisdom, where they can reason, use good judgment, or even know the difference between right and wrong? Being stupid can be deadly. It can even lead to the death of a nation.
Those people who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.    Wm. Penn

I heard that about equally distributing the wealth of the world.  Without any government interference, the money will be back in the same hands within a year.  Some people just can't manage money.  Lust, pleasures, addictions, lazy, ignorance, etc, take their toll on people.  America prospered in the past because of hard work and freedom to make or do things and recieve the reward of their efforts.  Mexico has oil, gold, and silver.  However, their government owns all mineral wealth.  You may own the property to live or farm on, but you do not own any oil or minerals underneath you.  In America this was different, and lead to greater wealth and riches.  I know of some property owners in northwest Alabama.  Coal was underneath their property.  They get $30,000 a year from a coal company because they are mining it under them.  If  I am not mistaken, North Dakota has more millionairs per capita than any other state because of the oil discovered there.  Back to stupid, American liberal through the school system, legal system, and news media has created a nation of stupid people and sheeple.

Yeah, the average lottery winner is pretty pathetic.  Not a clue about saving up the future.  As Dave Ramsey says it: "live like nobody else today so you can live like nobody else tomorrow."  Winning the lottery is a curse for those people.
Gambling is the ultimate stupid tax.  People with little bet it on the hope that they will win big time.  New York is considering another casino downstate.  The state thinks that this will be a good thing because of the tax money they will get.  Of course, there is the other side which is harder to quantify; the social services money they will have to pay out to all of the losers and their devestated families.

From scripture there is only 3 ways to obtain money, work, a gift, or an inheritance.  Gambling is taking from others and not giving work or a service or something in return.  Yes, they give up their money voluntarialy, but it is taking money from them.  It is theft.

work is a sure fire money making scheme. as a previous poster said there are 2 other ways to obtain money also. regardless of how you obtain money or property, its what you do with it after yu recieve it that shows if you are going to pay stupid tax or not
