Super 16 45/410 Barrel Sight options
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:29:53 AM »
I have a Super 16 45/410 barrel that has the vent rib on it and the bead and funny notch rear sight on it. Are ther any other options for sighting arrangements of these barrels? I was thinking of a ghost ring that would mount on the rib or something similar. I am interested in testing the accuracy of the 45 Colt since I have never had one. Also, another "rookie question". I assume you have to remove the choke to shoot the 45 Colt. Thaks for the help.

You can remove the vent rib and use some of the existing holes to mount standard sights to it.  I was going to attempt this with the one I had at one time, and if I remember correctly, you would either need to drill/tap another hole or two for a perfect mount of the sights, but you can mount them temporarily to see how it shoots.

With mine, the 45LC accuracy was decent enough for close-quarters whitetail hunting, but I wanted a little more accuracy out of mine and did some wheeling and dealing to pick up a 45LC only barrel from the Custom Shop.  Went from a 4-5 inch 3-shot grouping at 60 yards to having them all touch (roughly 1.5-2 inch grouping at worst).  Wasn't a very technical test as the shots were fired from an unsupported kneeling position, but gives you an idea.

Has anyone used the Williams Slugger sights that attach to the rib? I wonder how they would do with the short sight radius of a 16" barrel.
