First Major Customization
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:40:25 AM »
Well I finally pulled the trigger on customizing my 300 RUM.  After some suggestions here and finding out that Rock Creek was in Wisconsin and about 60 miles from my house I went with them.  I ordered a #4 sport with a 1 in 11 1/4" twist. They recommened a guy near there to blueprint the action, re-barrel, add sako extractor, beefier recoil lug and install a wyatt extended mag box.  Barrel should be done in 6-8 weeks and I am pretty excited to see what this "new" rig will do.

I know, Pandora's box... ::)

Ahhh, the anticipation. :)

Sounds like you are building a shooter.  Have you got all the "accessories" that you will need...a worthy scope, new brass / bullets etc.,

Let us know how she shoots!

I should have all I need for components as I've been playing with this gun since the caliber was introduced, I think in 1999.  I have a VX-III 4-14x50 on it, and that will stay for now.  It has been a decent shooter and I've killed several animals at +300yds with it, but it's never really been to where I want it and it seems to keep dropping off.  Couple nice groups here and there, but not like other stock rifles that I have.  So it has come to this....

Not to worry. When you get it shooting better than any gun you`ve ever owned you wil still be tring for more accuracy in a never ending quest for 5 shots through the same hole.

That may be true, but it will be a lot more fun than chasing my tail.
