NIPPLE & Hammer problem

I have a aftermarket GM 50cal scoped sharphooter barrel on a TC Hawken stock and triger/hammer/receiver. The hammer does not seem to be falling squarlly on the nipple but a hair behind? Answers? Solutions??

Hey man, perhaps a picture?  I'd think that you might have to heat and bend your hammer slightly or perhaps purchase another hammer which would be longer.  If it's a small amount, a little torch heat and pliers should reshape it.  Just be careful not to over heat it and get brittleness...

Yep, either reshape the hammer or if the nipple is in a screw in bolster you can adjust the bolster by screwing in or out...

I shot a CVA hawken for 30 years with the hammer not hitting square but it was an inletting problem.
I would have had to reposition the lock.
but it never failed  to fire.

This is part of initial tuning for all cap snappers.
It may never cause failure to go bang but it will cause erratic ignition from shot to shot.

this is common with mass produced guns.  bending the hammer, repositioning the bolster, and even a little file work on the hammer or nipple can give a more square contact area.  Pictures and more info (does it give consistent ignition, and groups) would help.

Since this is a replacement barrel I have to ask if the hammer fall was correct on the original barrel. If so it is possible that the new barrel is not seated fully to the rear, tight against the tang. It also could just be a taller nipple which interescts the arc of the hammer swing differently.

Good point Bubba.... These computer tecks just don't understand us mere mortals.  :o

We shoot muzzleloaders & wear period clothing & were supposed to post pictures & know how to work this puter??  Get real now.

Me too.  Right now I am posting this from a fancy cell phone that my wife insisted that we "upgrade" to.  Its gonna be a slow learning curve for me.  I already been sorely tempted to stomp this thing several times.

'Hot Shot' nipples are taller than OE. It is very difficult to, in effect, make the hammer longer. Left, right, or shorter is relatively easy. Put a OE [shorter] nipple in it. If it lites every time, you are done.

These are primitive weapons that don't require the precision required for your M-4.

  The easiest way I found to fix one was to resurface the angle on the hammerface to hit the primer squarely.

If the hammer strike was correct with the original barrel then modifying the hammer to fit the new barrel will obviously screw up the fit of the original. Since the hammer swings in an arc a taller nipple will cause it to intersect the hammer arc at a higher point in the arc, thus more forward in the hammer recess. I'd first try swapping nipples to see if that makes a difference. But it really is not imperative that the strike be perfect, as DennyRoark said, if it fires I wouldn't worry about it.
