Is the  combo only offered in .22/.410 now?A couple of years ago there were a number of combinations-even a 3 barrel combo package but now I only see one-the .22/.410

All of the other combos have been discontinued.

that's a shame especially for Canadians-we can't ship gun parts across the border-so-no barrel program

I got a chance to stop at my gunsmiths today with a .22 LR Versa Pak barrel, I have wanted to have one reamed to a .22 WMR for a long time now, well after checking, he just happened to have the proper reamer. Over some light discussion and talk about the next bible study at his church and some easy banter, it was accomplished. I have fired it once for function in my bullet trap in the cellar and hope to get out to the range this weekend with a few different types of ammo. It is so nice and light and compact with the iron sights I would like to be able to keep it that way but we will see what the old eyes will do with them....
The rumor is that H&R/NEF may have dropped the Versa Pak from the line-up, that is a terrible mistake in my estimation, they are great guns to buy for your children or grandchildren, or for yourself and use the children as an excuse. A great gun to keep at camp or in the truck. A sad day if they have in fact dropped the Versa Pak combo but a happy day for me with my .22 Mag Versa Pak barrel. If they have dropped them from the line up I will buy any I see in stock at sporting good stores for my grandchildren and those to come in the future...<><.... :)

Two grandchildren now and my daughter is engaged and getting married in a few months. I would expect in the future I might need 5 or 6 Versa Paks to hand down to the grandchildren. I would much prefer H&R/NEF kept making the Versa Paks and I could just go out and buy them as I needed them....<><....:)

I do not know who makes the business decisions at H&R/NEF but can you imagine the number of .22 LR (and .2 Mag !!!) Versa Pak barrels they would sell if they sold and fit them to centerfire frames, both rifle and shotgun? I would think that just about everyone would buy one as an additional barrel for center fire hunting gun. What a great thing to take to camp for fun or to practice with....<><....:)

I agree MSP and I am sorry I didn't get a VersaPak last year! Always looking but never quick enough for the ones on this board, I should have just ordered one. I will keep my eyes open at local pawn shops and at an auctioneer that I follow here in Ohio, I would never pass one up again for just the same reasons you mentioned. The grandkids and I will have lots of fun with them!

When she was about 5. I gave my grandaughter who is now 9, a Rossi "matched pair"  .22/410..didn't get myself a Versa-pack for myself until about 1&1/2 years ago.
The Rossi is very good with the .410 barrel..average or slightly better with the .22. My Versa-pack is excellent with the .22 barrel and I have not used the .410 yet.
Had I to do it over, they would both be NEF.
If you find a deal on a Versa-pack..buy it..

Some Walmart store will probably still have some of them in the back room. The number on them is 1063311422 This is taken directly off the box from a Walmart sticker, you may be able to have the search inventory for one. Price in $128.76   Larry

No, the Versa Pack frame is a centerfire frame to work with the .410 barrel, sb1 for all intents and purposes even tho H&R won't fit any barrels to it, it needs an offset rimfire barrel to work on it, only the Versa Pack rimfire barrels will work.

so will a low pressure barrel, like a 44 or a 357 work on the versa pack frame?

I don't know, more than likely, but there's a reason why Gardner wouldn't fit other barrels, call Madison and give em the serial number and see what can be fitted, who knows, maybe Remington will change their fitting policy on it.  ;)

Versa Pack Sets - receiver
« Reply #46 on: December 12, 2011, 08:02:09 AM »
I hope this is in the correct section, or the moderator can move it to the rimfire section.  I had a Versa Pack combo for a while, recently I got lucky and picked up another set locally.  My question is that I noticed a few differences.
My older set came with a blue NEF/H&R case & a straight pallet wood stock set, the newer set came with a synthetic youth stock and an extra straight pallet wood stock set.  But the .22 Versa pack barrels sport different sights, and most importantly,  the receiver in the older set has rounded corners where the receiver would attach to the stock, and the newer set looks like a basic SB1 receiver.  Anyone else notice these differences in their Versa Packs, or do I have a Versa Pack (older set) and a combo .22LR/.410 gun (newer set)?  Both sets have the numbers etched on the barrels and they were originally purchased new.  The newer set doesn't have Versa Pack marked on the box, the receiver has a view/inspection port on the receiver.  I don't have the box for the older set.
Any thoughts on this, especially on the physical differences of the frames (rounded corners).

Correction made regarding extra wood stock set, it was not part of the Versa Pack, but purchased separately.

Recently I received a PM from JimG, after confirming with JimG, that it was okay for me to post his PM, I copied and posted it.

"I bought mine in 2005 give or take a year. It had been sitting at the gun shop for some time at that point. It was brand new.  It was a blued steel, youth model with a Choate youth synthetic stock set (conventional not monte-carlo). I got a deal on it as it had been there for a while. It came as a .22lr/.410 set. The rimfire barrel has Marlin's Micro-groove rifling. The .410 barrel had very, very bad reamer marks and looked like a sewer pipe inside the bore. Pattern was very high and horrible. I spent hours burnishing the chamber and bore. It now has a slightly high POI but the pattern is great. I have not tried to shoot slugs through it yet. The rimfire barrel however is laser accurate with many brands of ammunition. It's favorite is the CCI Small Game Bullet. Off a bench with a 4x scope I can honestly shoot 7/16" to 1/2" 5 shot groups at 50 yards. At 25 yards most groups are basically one ragged hole. The gun came with no extra stock set or blue case, etc. Just the two barrels, frame, stock set, manual. I put an adult conventional Choate synthetic buttstock on it. Mine has the plastic fitting that holds the rear sight on the rimfire barrel as well. Hopefully that helps."

Thanks JimG for adding to our knowledge regarding Versa Packs.
