Fig Tree Safari's out of SA
« on: February 12, 2012, 06:13:00 AM »
This PH had a booth set up at local sportshow and taled to them a little bit about hunting there one day. (Never hurts to dream)
Anybody on here ever heard of them or hunted with them.

They were offering a 7 day plains game hunt 1x1 for 5700.00
                                                                 2x1 for 5500.00
                                                                 Non hunters 1000.00

Air fair for 2 is around 4k so I figure a trip for 2 (Me and the wife) would be close to 20 thousand.

Of course there were several whitetail ranches there offering 3 day "hunt" for a 400+ inch whitetail for 20,000.00 in Missouri. Which is about 3 hours away.. haha. Dont think so

  Hello BKS,

I just went to an outdoors expo this weekend myself and booked a hunt for south africa. I can't give you any info on the Fig tree outfitter, but for the two of you, the prices are somewhat comperable to what I was quoted, (although what species you intend to hunt can make a big difference) and real close to the other african safari booths were asking for their hunts as well.

Since I'm not married I am going alone, and that probably makes the overall pricing cheaper (easier to find a single seat on a flight, guiding, food and laundry services, etc.)

Hope this helps if your pondering going, remember you only get so many spins around the sun, and many of those are when your too young, too broke or too old to do anything, don't cheat yourself out of some good memories or unique opportunity.

Pretty much standard SA pricing. Namibia is usually a bit cheaper on the hunts and airfair from Europe and you don't have to deal with the gun permit issues at Johanesberg...

have a look on accuratereloading.com in the africa section- there is an extensive list of good and bad operators and costs and and ...

Namibia used to be cheaper than South Africa but I don't think it is any longer.  As long as you do your paperwork properly and preferably ahead of time, it's not hard to get your firearms into South Africa and South Africa allows hunting handguns unlike Namibia.

I would say $5,700 might be "standard pricing" as long as some trophies are included.  If no trophies are included, the the price is very high.  What trophies are included?

I've been to South Africa twice for no less than 14 days each time and never came close to $20,000 even including air fare and taxidermy.

I would advise you to ask for references from anyone you are thinking of hunting with and actually call the references and talk to them.
