Smoke and flame pics are always nice, but everybody loves mayhem and destruction.

That "Winter Firing" shot looks like a Calendar page to me! Right month for it, too....

I agree with Boomlover, Calendar Shot!

The guns were about 200 yards from the pallet structure.  The sound team was interested in recording the sound of the incoming grape and the impact on the wood.

The recordings for Master & Commander? or something new?
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Oldie but goodie, Master & Commander.  My wife and I have been organizing the household, something that we do periodically, and I came across photos of the weekend that we worked on Master & Commander artillery sound effects.

Yep every time I watch that move I say that doesn't sound like cannon balls hitting a ship-sounds more like cannon balls hitting a stack of pallets out in a snowy field--yep that's what I say everytime, sure do.

This wall was the one that they wanted us to shoot at from about 500 yds was to simulate the sound of shot going through the sides of a ship.  They decided they could create that sound in the studio, and were more interested in recording the sound of various projectiles as they passed this point.  I was rather disappointed because I wanted to put some holes in it especially after spending over an hour on construction.

I assume the pallet sounds were used when grape shot swept the decks in the film.

;D , Hey, Norm, one thing I learned working in cold conditions...the heat is in the tools! Hard work warms you up, standing and supervising just makes you colder...Nice wall you built there! Grape in the pallets, round shot thru that wall....must have been a fun day!

I was all ready to put the first solid shot through the wall.  The gun was sighted for a dead center hit, and then I was told to throw the shot over the wall.  I raised the elevation to put it 3-4 feet over which is where it went when we fired.  The only shot that hit the wall was by accident when Matt put a round of chained shot into it from the 24 pdr.  The chained shot was made up of two aluminum balls chained together.  On ball went through and the other didn't.  I wish I had a photo of it.  The sound crew had hung a $8,000 mike on the wall, and the chain shot just missed it.   Chained shot below.
