Years ago there was a prostitution ring operating out of ice houses on White Bear Lake near St. Paul (and probably others).
As for the bar, there are more alcoholics per square inch in Minnesota than anyplace else outside of a New Mexico Indian reservation. You would not believe the booze consumption here. Ironically you can only buy alcohol, including beer and wine, in liquor stores, so there is an astounding number of liquor stores here. They are absolutely everywhere. It's not uncommon to find a small town of a few thousand people with two or three liquor stores.
During the winter there are mini-billboards for bars all along the snowmobile trails, and people ride their "sleds" from one bar to the next, drinking all day as they go. Similarly for motorcycles, where people go from bar to bar and have a couple of beers at each stop.
