452 with gas check for 460 Rowland? Need a mold
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:30:59 AM »
I converted a 45 acp (Kimber) to 460 Rowland (185 @ 1550 fps, 200 @ 1450, 230 @ 1350 (all approx))& don't like buying bullets...do you offer a 452 mold with a gas check....somewhere between 200 and 230 grains...will need to be able to cycle in semi auto will be used for deer (no round nose)?   Any suggestions? Thanks, Scott

I make any mold you want in gas check, pb or bevel base, or paper patch.  You name the weight, nose shape  and diameter, and you got it, as long as diameter is between 22 and 8 bore   I'm recommending my LFN your your gun.  If you are getting those speeds with jacketed you'll be getting at least 100 fps and possibly 200 fps higher speed with cast if you lube with LBT bullet lube.

Veral,
I too have a 460 Rowland conversion, and based of the velocities and weights Okie2 gave you that the 460 Rowland can do, which weight LFN would you suggest for big game? and is a gas check preferable?
Thanks,
Dennis

With the velocity potential of this cartridge you would probably do well to use gas checked bullets, and, personally, I would lean to the heaviest weight you have named, 230 gr, and for that I recommend my LFN.  I have had no customer complaints regarding feeding problems with it, it provides better powder capacity than most bullets of the same weight, has enough meplat to be very deadly on game, and is very accurate..
