?: Did the Model Seven Stainless 7mm-08 ever come in 22" barrel
« on: February 13, 2012, 03:32:12 PM »
I just bought a Remington model Seven Stainless/Synthetic(Camo may not be original) that had been rebarreled and other work. It now wears a mis-clocked 22" barrel that is marked 7mm-08 Rem(present markings looks factory), I'm thinking that if it was a Rem 700 barrel it would be marked as such (700's are marked on the barrel and Model Sevens on the receiver). But did Remington ever produce a Stainless model Seven with a 22" barrel in 7mm-08?

My 25th anniversary edition sports a 22" Barrel , but was not offered in stainless.
My Model Seven is marked on the Barrel.

I did see one picture of a wood stock 20" stainless barrel posted on Gunbroker last year and assumed it a custom.

All the other Regular production 7mm-08 Sevens I have ever seen or physically held had 20-inch barrels.
I have never handled one of the original 18.5" models.

What is marked on the barrel?

It appears that the "Remington Arms Ilion, NY" in small letters has been filed or sanded off, but the 7mm-08 Rem marking is still there. and a couple of proof marks same or similar to my other M7 barrel there also.

On my Anniversary Blued barrel itself states "Remington Arms Company inc. Ilion, NY 7mm-08 Rem"

I actually sent Rem Arms a note a while back asking of they would ever produce a Wood stock , model Seven 22" barrel stainless type model (similar to a 700 CDL SF) in the future because I liked the look (after I saw the custom on Gunbroker).

I believe I posted their response on GB somewhere. Kind of a canned "Thank You for your inquiry" kind of note.

            Wouldn't a model seven with a 22" barrel bear a strong resembelence to a Mountain Rifle ?

I dont know if it resembles a mountain rifle, I sure like the look of mine.. But more importantly , I like the balance, weight,  and compactness. the 22" barrel seems perfect. Pleasure to hunt with in steep terrain which was it's intended purpose , 22" barrel not whippy at all. It's flexible enough for deep mixed wood , mid alpine , and the occasional high open field shots . I consider it, for me the best whitetail rifle and cartridge combo I have ever hunted whitetails with. A true deerslayer , . I topped mine off with a butler creek sling (which I highly recommend) Weaver quick attach rings, Steel bases, (which I also highly recommend) and swap between two compact scopes a  4.5-14x32 and 2-7x32  depending on terrain I will be hunting within on a particular day.
