223 Ultra Varmint Value?
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:33:26 AM »
Ran across a 223 Ultra Varmint 24" fluted barrel with plastic stock.
It is for sale locally, wants $250.00.  Deal or no deal.
Appreciate your comments/ opinions.

I think the Handi bug has bit me.   :-\

That is a fair price in my area. I know the ones with the fluted barrels fetch a lil more around here. You wont regret the 223. I just picked up a used ultra 223 with laminate stock and it has quickly became my favorite gun and best shooter.

I paid $250 for mine after shipping and transfer. It was as close to like new as I could ask for. I'm very satisfied and would do it all over again. Shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo and a $35 Tasco 50mm scope.

Thanks for the info guys. Actually I would prefer to have a 22 Hornet as I already reload that caliber for my Contender.
Figured I would buy this one to get a SB-2 frame and target stock and have it rebarreled in 22 Hornet.
Wish they offered a 22 Hornet in an Ultra Varmint.

Buy another Ultra, like the 308 or 25-06 and send in the frame for a 22 Hornet barrel. Sure you would have to switch barrels, but only twice a year. Put on your deer barrel in September and check your zero, shoot your deer in November and switch it back to 22 Hornet until the following September again. While you have it in getting the 22 Hornet barrel, order an extra fore end so each barrel has a dedicated fore end. I have two frames and 6 barrels. Both frames have Cinnamon Lams and each barrel has a dedicated Cinnamon laminated fore end so each is an Ultra, per say. I started with a 223 Ultra Varmint, added a 357 barrel (reamed to 357 Max) and a 30-30 barrel. Then bought a 44 Magnum and then added a 22 Hornet (stubbed to 22K Hornet) and 444 Marlin barrels. I now have every thing covered from small varmints to the biggest four legged critters in North America with a Handi.

Good Luck and Good Shooting

Thanks LaOtto, I already have a 357 Max Handi which will remain a dedicated frame. This would be a dedicated frame for the 22 Hornet. I have both calibers in Contender barrels but am thinking of selling out. Depends on a pending law change in Michigan (HB5249). My Contender in 357 Max is my present deer gun. I really don't have any need of large caliber centerfires.  Just thought I would pick this one up since it has the frame and stock I want and get a Hornet barrel fitted to it and sell the 223.
