Chipmunk Bolt Action Pistol
« on: January 27, 2012, 03:27:21 AM »
I saw one of these pistols in Hoffman's in Newington CT for $199 in 22 Mag.  Anybody have any experience with it?

I saw one in the Big R, in Sandpoint Idaho in .22 Long Rifle.  Wondered if they made them in .22 Mag.  Looks interesting.  Wonder whats with the  left handed bolt.  Thats they way these were too.

Bolt handle on left so you can keep a grip with your strong hand and open and close the bolt with left if you aren't on a bench.  Much like a fishing pole with an underspin reel..  ;)

Precisely, and a smart idea I think.

Or in .17HMR or 5MM.
Maybe we have that covered with some american made that are not bolt.
The bolt is a little confusing to me--unless there is something I missed--because a single shot in a bolt will require both hands and loss of target until rechambered.

The single shot feature had me wondering as well. Fortunately, I have two Savage Strikers that are magazine fed bolt actions. The 22lr is very accurate to 100 yards, the 22WMR a little farther. I have 2x scopes on them, need to step up a bit as eyesight diminishes. Savage did make a few Strikers in 17 HMR, never had the money when I found one.

If looks could kill a cat, this one would be a cat tack driver IMO.   ;)

Also not known for its good looks, the Anshutz Exemplar's are what I both IHMSA and varmint hunted with (22LR & 22 Hornet), and they were both tackdrivers off the bench or Creedmore.   In all of their configurations during the models run they were quite popular with the IHMSA as well as with the squirrel/varmint hunting crowds.   Left bolt was standard, right bolt available for a premium, and based on their Model 64 Match action.   They were available at various times in 17HMR, 22LR, 22WMR and 22 Hornet with 5 shot clips standard, 10 shot clips available as well as some in single shot versions, and multiple barrel lengths/sight options.   In use a slingshot Exemplar would be serviceable for either useage, but the clip models were far more popular with the silhouette crowd anyway.   Your strong hand weld doesn't have to be broken reloading whether a single shot or repeater, and that would apply to the above cat killer as well.

The $200 price ought to make the cat killer a winner in as much as I've seen Exemplars running $700-$1500 or more to buy now days, with the silhouette 22LR and Hornet versions the hardest to find.    I would have liked to try out a 17HMR...

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

this is what I found on their website, seems as though it IS available in 22mag and 17HMR: Hunter Pistol       Caliber: .22 Short, .22 Mag, .17 HMR
Action: Manually cocking single-shot bolt action with a forged steel and machined low scope bolt handle.    Sights: Standard with Williams Fire Sights or Scope Base

I have 1 in .22lr.
It's a hoot.
I put the scope mount on it with a cheap red dot sight.
Trigger kinda sucked, till I cleaned it up a little.
I installed a set of sling swivels, as well.

I have one in 17 HMR.  I use it for small game hunting. but think it would be more versatile in 22 Magnum.
