.17 High Standard round?
« on: December 22, 2003, 04:36:18 PM »
Browing the Brownell's website, I cam accross a listing for a ".17 High Standard Pistol Barrel" chambered for the ".17 High Standard round."

I never heard of this. Is this the same as the .17 IHR?  I have not been able to find any listing for ammo in this caliber.

Can I "drop in" one of these barrels into my old .22 lr High Standard pistols and shoot it?

Any help in tracking down this caliber would be very much appreciated.

This was supposed to be a take off of the HMR. but was based on the 22lr case. Seems to be a completely worthless proposition that has gone no where. I personally have never even seen any ammo for it let alone a pistol chambered for it. Although I have read a couple of posts from people who have seen it. My advise is not to waste your money on it, buy a good 22 instead.   KN

.17 High Standard

FYI...  the .17 High Standard round was designed 40+ years ago by personnel in the 'glorydays' of the old High Standard company in Connecticut, long before anyone made any mention of the .17HRM.  the new High Standard company of Houston is heavily beset with controversy and trying everything imaginable to get connected with the 'glorydays' of the old company.  the ammunition has been contracted from an ammo company in Mexico, which offers yet another set of problems; not the least of which are quality, consistency, distribution...  potential is tremendous, but i dont want  a higher than necessary cost for less than acceptable shootin piece.  just thinkin out loud-
