Well , anyway , bottom line is: bullet placement is the key....a properly placed XTP WILL kill deer, and effeciently.  And in my opinion , a flattened out 44 makes a bigger mess inside the ribcage than a pencile sized hole running through. ( though most of my kills have been thru and thru )

That is absolutely correct and why they kill quicker.  Given the same caliber, the same impact velocity and the same bullet placement (assume it to be the correct bullet placement in the heart/lung area)  the bullet that expands will impart more energy and cause more destruction to the game.....exactly why it will kill quicker than a bullet that does not expand.  Basically as simple as that.

Redhawk1 is still wrestling with the pig (his saying not mine but the anology is appropriate) even though he already won but disputes his own analogy.

i've had more bang flops from my expandables that i have with hardcasts.  i've even had an oryx drop where it stood with a barnes running fast out of my 454 on a shoulder shot.  i've killed them with hardcasts but to say a 475 kills faster than a 44 mag based on diameter of the bullet, .o5", a small size to be sure, then try and tell me running an expandable that opens to 1" doesn't kill faster than one at .475 is just disingenuous.
a gun owner that votes dem is an oxymoron with the emphasis on moron.

Don't know who you are addressing here, but I know I never said anything about one bullet killing faster than another. No one can show me any facts where one bullet kills faster than another.  My whole point of this conversation is, a hand cast bullet will kill just fine, with the proper shot placement, any bullet will kill just fine. I prefer hard cast bullets, and larger calibers, due to the fact that 2 holes lets out blood quicker, and I don't ever have to worry if my bullet is going to expand if I were using a hollow point.  I have used hard cast bullets on a lot of big game animals, I have had a bunch of bang flops with them as well as 15 to 25 yards recoveries.  What I find disingenuous is, someone trying to say one type of bullet will kill faster than another. We are talking about handgun bullets for hunting here.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.
