It would certainly make sense to use up the cheap energy before focusing our resources on a more expensive alternative. Why on earth would you want to use the more expensive alternative? What exactly are we going to do with the oil if we do start using algae?


Are you driving twice as far to get groceries, at twice the cost as needed? Would you do this under the assumption that if you leave them at the close store they will be there in the future when you have been layed off or gas is too expensive to go twice as far for milk and eggs? That friend is stupid, everyone knows it is stupid. The close store will not save them back for you. They will sell the groceries to the next person in line to buy them. You will be broke and will have worn out your car in an attempt to predict the future

EQ....Just leave the pertroleum in the ground,,, who cares if it is outdated. Who said algae oils are more expensive at this point? In fact they may be incrediblely less expensive and very 'green' as far as footprint is concerned. In a free capitalistic society we should and deserve to be offered all manner of fuel options...not just the socialism of fuel form Big Brother Oil....
When guys like Krystol and Krauthammer chime in and posion the well, I know I'm being conned _ _as in neoconned. Their first Commandmant is , "Thou shalt protect Big Oil at all times"...the he!! with those guys---lets's get free again....what do you say..!?

Why should big oil give a good crap what they are selling as energy? If they could produce algae at a lower cost they would do it.  Then they would compete with themselves to drive prices up. These are of course the evil capitalist dogs are they not? perhaps the motivation is simply to despoil the planet and the cash is a by product.

You are not deluded enough to think this algae oil will be allowed to birth on its own are you? It will be paid for and outrageously so by the users and non users alike. Why would Shell, Exxon, whatever allow it ? Raise prices till it is an economically viable alternative. Let the investors sink cash into the production facilities. They release about 9 ounces onto the market. BAM the oil market plunges on speculation this new alternative saves the day. Investors are slaughtered because Algae oil is too expensive to make now that oil prices have plummeted.


 Am I wrong? Witness the stupid ethanol investors. Then the taxpayer will have to bail out another politically powerful group of greenies. Can you say Solyndra times ad infinitum?

  A bit of common sense (not common with liberals) will help to clarify.  We can and should start developing other sources, but  crippling our national economy to chase a greenie pipe dream is totally stupid !  It matters not that B. Hussein intentionally appointed an energy czar who wants us to pay $10.00 per gallon for gas, it is criminal (IMO) to intentionally cripple the US economy by such tricks as stopping the Keystone pipeline.  Why would he choose to do this?

Looking back over some of my old gas receipts, I see some over 4.00 per gallon in the summer of 2008.

  If gas prices neared $4 per gallon some time in 2008, it simply shows that the Bush admin must have done something to bring them back down.  ...Something more than shutting down drilling in the gulf, refusing Canadian oil and kissing the hands of Muslim potentates.
   Let's see how B Hussein does with the same problem.
