M1885 Remington-Lee
« on: March 06, 2012, 03:02:01 PM »
Was poking around the web doing research on .45-70... tripped over the M1885 Rem.-Lee... is it my imagination or is this design even simpler than the Mosin for the most part?

Somewhere I noticed someone said it became the British Lee-Enfield?

Anyway, the exploded view makes me wonder why this design didn't catch on a little more. Looks simple, rugged, and replace the leaf spring in the trigger mechanism and probably nothing to break. Magazine spring looks a little hokey, but that could've been fixed.

Any idea what it's shortcomings are?

Seems like a great design on paper.

Update: And... removable box magazine... way ahead of it's time.

I had one.  I don't think the military liked the idea of a repeater.
