Neck sizing the 224-32 FA?
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:59:31 AM »
Do any of you 224-32 shooters out there neck size instead of full-length resize the 224-32 case?  I’m thinking that neck sizing will work the brass less and might result in longer case life, since the case failures I’ve observed start at where the shoulder ends and the neck begins.  I know Hornady makes a short rifle neck size die which works for 22 Hornet, 22 Remington Jet and similar cartridges, but I don’t know if it would work on a case as short as the 224-32.  Anybody out there have any experience in this?
Thanks,
JayCee

Have you looked any further at this?
I am curious about shortening the die to allow it to work.
I use a Lyman 310 tool 22 Hornet neck size die on my 22 KE-Hornet. This die works well but unfortunately would not allow the .224-32 into the die. I wonder if a 219 Zipper 310 tool die would work.
I'm a fan of the 327 Federal and a .22 based on the cartridge would be interesting.
