Rossi youth 22lr/410 combo
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:41:40 AM »
I'd like to get a few more opinions before I do this. My daughter has one of the small frame combos and likes reloading, so I was planning a .357 magnum barrel for it but I want to make sure it will take the pressure first. If not, I'll just shorten it to shoot 38spl only. She's only 13 and very petite, so I don't think she can move up to a large frame youth yet.
Thanks in advance for the input.

Lotsa guys on this board start their youngsters using Handi rifles in .357, but shooting .38 specials.  ;)  Should work similarly on a Rossi, just a different platform.  Much like H&R's they can have grouping issues due to heat, but as long as you can get 2 true shots before movement starts, she should have fun with it.  ;)

Tacklebury, thanks for the reply, but I'm not using a Rossi barrel, I'm starting with a blank and making the lug. I'm just wondering if the smaller frame of the youth combo will hold up to the 357. I'm doing the same with my Handi since they won't fit a rifle barrel to my 1997 mfg. frame, but with a scratch made stubb to avoid welding the lug to the barrel.

Re: the company not fitting a .357 rifle barrel to your 1997 frame, instead of building up a barrel from a blank just look for a used .357 Handi barrel and fit it yourself. Very easy and all you need to know is in the H&R FAQ's, or  just ask in the H&R section and your questions will be quickly answered....<><....:)

Thanks for the response MSP. I'm going to send my wife's frame in for barrels since hers is new enough. The 357 is just for my daughter's small frame Rossi.

Nice combo for a yute!! I always felt a 22 rim fire did not teach a yute fear and the effects of it, no noise, no respect for it!!! A 410 is a great rabbit/bird gun, and the 38/357 has some noise for them to learn respect with the damage it can do, not like a 22rf. Plus at under 100yds can take a deer. All IMHO

We rarely have a shot over 50 yards at deer so it will be a great starter. I just have to figure out some sights for it after it's fitted and the lug is almost done. I'll post a picture when it's finished.
