H&R 760 safety question.
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:10:53 PM »
Picked up a nice 760 at a very reasonable price awhile back.  For those that don't know about these.  http://openboltguns.blogspot.com/2010/02/h-sahara.html

The only things 'wrong' with it are, needs a buffer, naturally, and the safety is loose.  By loose I mean that in proper working order it presses against the received and is held in fire or safety positions by the safety, but apparently this was sprung out a bit by someone or something, so it will not hold in position.  There is a detent for each position, but I cannot tell for sure if the safety was sprung out, doesn't really look like it, or the detent on the top is worn so much it doesn't catch any longer.  Haven't been able to see if the bulb screws into the top of the safety lever and holds a spring and ball, or is just solid and is in fact sprung out so it won't hold.

I've done a lot of looking, and so far found nothing on this.  Apparently this is the only one in the world with this problem. :o   Took the stock off and looked, apparently the safety is held on with a pin, which is staked on both ends.  I do NOT want to take this pin out to spring the safety back without knowing the proper way to do it.  I'm sure that if I remove the pin it will ruin it, unless there is some trick to it.  If I can't find a replacement pin if needed, probably can on Numrich, I can make one.  But before I do anything on it, I need some information on just what I should be doing, and how to do it.

So, anyone knowledgable about this problem?  Thanks in advance.

Found this for sale on Gunbroker.com, it is the same model I have, and has some good photos, including the safety, so it will give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.
