A picture for all to enjoy
« on: June 02, 2011, 12:37:41 AM »
My daughter sent me this photo (and a few others) of visitors to her property on Wednesday evening. She loves to see wildlife and called the other day to tell me that a little brown bat was roosting in their eaves. She said that there should be enough mosquitoes to feed a huge flock of bats!

That is a great picture! What part of PA is your daughter in?

Tell your daughter not to disterb the bats if she can avoid it. Many of the caves are having a Mold problem that is irratating the bats nasel passages and causing them to come out of hibernation to early. A lot of brown bats are die ing and it is getting to be a big problem. All the caves I know of have been shut down to visitors. They are trying to stop the spred of the mold.

I found this information because I wanted to take a Boy Scout Troop into some primative caves.

Bingo,

We're all aware of the White Nose Syndrome that little brown bats are having. This past winter I again saw bats flying in the daytime which as you know is not a good sign. And last week while walking my beagle he found a dead brown bat and almost rolled in it but luckily I stopped him before he got down on it. And don't worry, there is no bothering any resident bats found on my daughters property.
