Barrel fitting ?
« on: March 01, 2012, 10:27:27 AM »
I've hade great luck with all of my barrels fitting up until now.
I've read the barrel fitting "how to" in the FAQ's.
I think I understand the procedure but wanted to check with you guys first.
It's easier to ask you guys if I'm going in the right direction than ask for help if I screw up.  :o   ::)

Barrel mounts and closes up completely, no gap and square to the world.
But it doesn't hold/stay closed, as in it doesn't snap/lock in.

I need to slowly & gently & carefully remove a little material of the barrel shelf correct?  ???

Thanks in advance.  ;)

WELL......

Are you sure the barrel is all the way down seated in the receiver?  There should be a noticeable step down from the frame to the barrel.... We are talking a few thousandths here...
IF THERE IS, then I agree with your assessments... GO SLOW!

BUT I am betting its not and if this is the case, you will need to remove some material form the hinge point... This will allow the barrel to set back a bit and also drop down. Once it drops down, you will likely be able to latch. You will likely still need to "massage" the shelf...

I would agree, probably need to remove material from the hinge. You should try removing the plug for latch engagement, fitting a barrel properly is alot easier when you can see whats going on with the latch.

Thanks guys. I prob won't get a chance to do it tonite.
Apppreciate the other things to check help also.
Like I said it's easier to ask you guys now rather than after I screw up.
